On November 13, 2019, a completion certificate ceremony for "ISO 14001 Internal Environmental Auditor Training Course" was held at the Office of President. The ceremony was attended by President Hisataka Moriwaki, Vice President Seiki Ofuji (Executive Director for General Affairs and Finance), Professor Osamu Sakurada (Faculty of Engineering, Manager of the Environmental Affairs Office), and Professor Tetsuma Murase (Faculty of Applied Biological Sciences, Assistant Manager of the Environmental Affairs Office).

All facilities in Gifu University (excluding the University Hospital) have already obtained ISO 14001 Certification (international standard for environmental management systems), and volunteer university staff and students carry out ISO 14001 internal environmental auditing every year. In auditing, they check whether the university's environmental management systems are operated in compliance with ISO 14001 standard or not.

At the beginning of the training, participants were given a briefing on ISO 14001 and a method of internal auditing from an expert, which was followed by an actual auditing on campus.

At the ceremony, President Moriwaki handed out a completion certificate to each student. The following are the comments made by the students; "I learned a lot about the university's conservation activities." "After joining the auditing, I become more aware of the environment, and want to continue to perform my duty as a certified auditor." "I would like to make the university's environmental approaches known to everyone at Gifu University."

It is hoped that these young auditors make greater contributions to the protection of environment in the near future.

- Ms. Nao Yoshida, 2nd year student at the Faculty of Regional Studies

- Mr. Hayato Ito, 1st year Master's student at the Graduate School of Natural Science and Technology
