New day-care center "Hohoemi (smiles) building completed

The opening ceremony to celebrate the completion of a new day-care center "Hohoemi" building (on campus) was held on March 18, 2019.

"Hohoemi" is a Gifu City authorized day-care center for children aged 2-year old and under whose parents and guardians are working for Gifu University. It is also open to children in the local community. Due to a growing demand for day-care centers, expansion of Hohoemi building was made in an aim to ease concerns of parents going back to work after maternity/childcare leaves. In addition to the building expansion, the number of staff was increased and they will welcome incoming children this spring.

At the ceremony, President Hisataka Moriwaki gave an opening speech. The ceremony was attended by around 60 people represented by: Gifu City Mayor Masanao Shibahashi, Vice President Seiki Ofuji (Executive Director for General Affairs and Finance), Vice President Masako Hayashi (for Promotion of Gender Equality and Diversity), and Professor Kosho Kasuga (Hohoemi principal, Faculty of Education).

"Parents need a place to leave their children under the proper care of nursing staff in a secured, safe environment so that they can work free from worries about their children. Hohoemi will definitely serve that purpose. In addition, by accepting children in the local community in this day-care center, Gifu University can also contribute to society." said President Moriwaki. Mayor Shibahashi followed him and remarked; "I hope Hohoemi becomes a role model in creating a work-and resident-friendly society through a partnership between Gifu University and Gifu City."

After the ceremony, people were invited to tour around the newly opened spaces and facilities in Hohoemi.
