Closing Ceremony of 2025 Space Engineering Workshop Held

On Saturday, December 13, the Center for Collaborative Study with Community of the Promotion of Regional Collaboration and the Center for Space Research and Utilization Promotion at the Faculty of Engineering, Gifu University, held the closing ceremony of the 2025 Space Engineering Workshop.

This workshop is part of a high school-university collaboration project with the Gifu Prefectural Government, designed to provide high school students with opportunities to experience education and research at Gifu University and to convey the appeal of the aerospace industry in Gifu Prefecture. The aim is to foster interest and motivation among the next generation to pursue careers in this field of aerospace business. Approximately 100 participants attended this year's closing ceremony.

The ceremony began with an address by President YOSHIDA Kazuhiro of Gifu Prefecture on behalf of the organizing institutions of the workshop. This was followed by presentations from two local high schools within Gifu Prefecture that participated in the "CanSat KOSHIEN - The Japanese High School CanSat Championship," which uses small can-shaped mock satellites. They introduced their missions at the Gifu regional competition and shared their enthusiasm for the national competition to be held at Gifu University in March 2026.

Next, the "the Gifu High School Sat (GHS) project," led mainly by local high school students, was introduced. Reports covered the launch of their small satellite conducted in the United States between August and September, the subsequent deployment from the International Space Station, and ongoing operations.

After these reports, Associate Professor MASUDA Satoshi from the Institute for Space-Earth Environmental Research, Nagoya University in Aichi Prefecture, delivered a special lecture titled, "The Sun in Violent Activity," which captivated the audience. At the end of the ceremony, completion certificates were presented by Specially Appointed Professor SASAKI Minoru from the Promotion of Regional Collaboration. In addition, students who submitted outstanding project reports received the President's Award from President Yoshida and a Special Award from Dr. MORIWAKI Hisataka, Advisor to the Space Engineering Workshop and former President of Gifu University. The event concluded with closing remarks by Professor UEMATSU Yoshihiko, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, marking the successful completion of the 2025 Space Engineering Workshop.
