MEDC's 90th Medical Education Seminar & Workshop
The Medical Education Development Center (MEDC) at Gifu University held the 90th Medical Education Seminar & Workshop on Thursday, January 23, and Friday, January 24, 2025. This event featured a webinar, four "MEDTaaalk" sessions, and six workshops, with a total of 227 participants, including lecturers.
"MEDTaaalk" is a program where participants can watch mini-presentations by lecturers on specific themes, followed by dialogues between the lecturers and navigators. This program aims to provide opportunities to gain insights into a wide range of fields that participants may not have encountered before, thereby broadening the scope of medical education. Additionally, participants can use the Q&A function to ask questions about anything that piques their interest during the sessions.
In this "MEDTaaalk," the following four themes were covered. Participants provided feedback such as, "The vast amount of information was summarized concisely and was very easy to understand," and "The content seems applicable to my own classes."
- The Sociology of Conference Observation: Examples of the Dichotomy Between Individual Instruction and Holistic Education
- Measuring and Evaluating Communication
- Considering Communication Between Healthcare Providers and Patients from the Perspective of Intercultural Communication
- Resilience of Clinical Research Coordinators (CRC)
In the webinar, Professor FUJISAKI Kazuhiko from MEDC gave a lecture on "Medical History and Medical Overview from the Perspective of the History and Philosophy of Science." Professor Fujisaki has been teaching the general education course "Humanities and Philosophy of Science" at Gifu University since 2012, and in this lecture, he introduced the essence of his course content. Participants shared feedback such as "I felt the depth of medical education" and "My concept of feedback has changed." In the workshops, various issues in medical education were addressed, such as "Building a Curriculum for Efficient Learning of Clinical Medicine" and "Considering Social Barriers for Medical Students with Disabilities."
As a joint utilization center for medical education, MEDC aims to promote, develop, and improve medical education in Japan by continuously holding "Medical Education Seminars & Workshops." The next 91st Medical Education Seminar & Workshop is scheduled to be held from Thursday, May 29, to Saturday, May 31, 2025, at the Youth Education National Olympics Memorial Youth Center. Additionally, the "26th Training for Academic Affairs of National, Public, and Private University Medical and Dental Schools" will be held concurrently on Thursday, May 29 and Friday, May 30. Applications for participation will be accepted on the MEDC website from early April.
