Gifu University's Student Team Wins at 'IVRC2024'

Gifu University student team created the VR work 'Don't Stop the Broadcast! The Ultimate Formula Race Broadcast Experience' and won the championship at the VR content creation competition 'IVRC2024', marking the first victory for a team from Gifu Prefecture. They simultaneously received the 'Laval Virtual Prize', which includes an invitation to the global VR event 'Laval Virtual 2025' (to be held in April 2025 in Laval, France), securing a spot on the international stage where cutting-edge VR works from around the world will gather.

There were 86 project submissions for 'IVRC2024', out of which 21 works advanced to the SEED STAGE (preliminary round). Ultimately, 11 works competed in the final stage, the LEAP STAGE, where Gifu University's student team emerged as the champion.

The winning VR project allows users to experience being a broadcast cameraman for a Formula race. It realistically recreates the wind and sound felt by a cameraman chasing a machine speeding at over 300 km/h using fans and stereophonic sound. The ability to operate a life-sized camera device to enjoy an authentic broadcast experience was highly praised.

On Thursday, December 19th, 2024, the student team visited the Office of the President to share their thoughts on the production of their work and the joy of winning the award. Team representative Mr. SAKAI Hiroki said, "There were many challenges during the production process, but we were committed to realistically recreating the world of F1 by cooperating with team members and actually visiting the circuit for research. We paid great attention to details such as the weight and operability of the camera device, stereophonic sound, fans, and vibration devices, and we are delighted to have won the championship."

Gifu University supports the challenges of its students and looks forward to their further success, while striving to nurture individuals who create new value for society.
