Gifu University Hosts the 'Let's Think About SDGs! Eco Activity Awareness Poster and Senryu Contest'

Gifu University, in collaboration with the Juroku Bank, Ltd. hosted the "Let's Think About SDGs! Eco Activity Awareness Poster and Senryu1 Contest" for students at the Gifu University Faculty of Education Affiliated Compulsory School System (Elementary -Junior High).

This contest was held as part of the "Memorandum of Understanding on Environmental Conservation Collaboration" signed with the Juroku Bank, with the aim of promoting eco-friendly activities from familiar perspectives such as energy saving, environmental beautification, and waste reduction while thinking about the SDGs.

This year marks the 14th time we have called for poster submissions, and as a new initiative, we also introduced a senryu category. After rigorous evaluation, the best, excellent, and Juroku Financial Group awards were decided for both the poster and senryu categories from the submitted works.

On Friday, December 6, 2024, an award ceremony was held for the winning works. At the ceremony, each award-winning student received a certificate from President YOSHIDA Kazuhiro and a supplementary prize from Mr. TOKORO Kouichi, Executive Director of the Juroku Bank. President Yoshida remarked, "From this year, we have also included senryu category. Each work was filled with creator's thoughts. I hope you will keep in mind the feelings you put into these works in your daily activities and spread those activities to those around you." Mr. Tokoro stated, "The works created from your diverse perspectives are impactful. It is important to maintain a high awareness of environmental issues and continue your efforts." In response, Principal FUJII Hidetaka said, "The students' desire to cherish the environment and their ingenuity in expressing it are evident in their works. This initiative has provided students with learning opportunities."

Miss HIGAMI Sumire, a first-year student who won the best prize in the poster category, stated, "I included a message in my work to avoid wasting electricity." Mr. IWATA Yusei, a sixth-year student who won the best prize in the senryu category, expressed, "I am happy that my favorite senryu was chosen."

The award-winning works were displayed in the University Library, where many people, including local residents, have viewed them. They will be exhibited at the Juroku Bank Kano Branch from Wednesday, January 8 to Friday, January 24, 2025, and at the Juroku Bank Ginan Branch from Monday, January 27 to Friday, February 7, 2025.

We hope this activity will serve as an opportunity for both children and adults to think about the environment and further promote eco-friendly activities within the community and society.
