Partnership Agreement with Tomika Town

Gifu University signed a partnership agreement with Tomika Town, Gifu Prefecture on Thursday, September 19, 2024. Gifu University and Tomika Town have been collaborating in diverse fields such as community development, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) training, ancient tomb research, and early childhood education. This partnership agreement aims to build a comprehensive and close cooperative relationship across various fields, further deepening sustainable collaboration. It also seeks the formation of a vibrant local community and fostering of future leaders.

This is the 42nd comprehensive cooperation agreement that our university has signed with a local government in Gifu Prefecture.

At a signing ceremony, Mayor WATANABE Keita from Tomika Town stated, "With the designation of the "Yuda Burial Mounds" as a national historic site in 2022, we would like to utilize this historic site for hometown education and enhance the town's recognition. Although our town is currently experiencing population growth, we are looking ahead to potential population decline. We believe that improvement of resident satisfaction and revitalization of the town are the priority to attract prospective new residents. Under this new partnership agreement, we hope to receive flexible ideas from students and research outcomes to solve issues that the town is facing and work together with the university and the residents to continue to address challenges.

President YOSHIDA Kazuhiro stated, "As one of Japan's top regional core universities, Gifu University excels in industry, community development, manufacturing, food production, healthcare, and human resource development. In Tomika Town with growing population, there is a strong focus on enhancement of education, including early childhood education and elementary school English education, as well as cultural preservation and child-rearing support measures. They are all conducive to an increase in the number of young children and students in the town. We would like to further strengthen our collaboration with Tomika Town as a place for learning and student exchange at home and abroad, as well as research activities."

In collaboration with Tomika Town, Gifu University will continue to utilize the knowledge and technology we have cultivated to promote various initiatives for regional revitalization.
