Mr. AKAMATSU Ryoichi secures a spot to compete at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games
Mr. AKAMATSU Ryoichi secured a spot to compete in the men's high jump event at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, which will take place in Paris, France from Friday, July 26 to Sunday, August 11, 2024. Mr. Akamatsu graduated from the Graduate School of Education at Gifu University in 2020 and is currently employed by SEIBU PRINCE. Additionally, he is pursuing studies at the Graduate School of Medicine at Gifu University.
On Tuesday, July 9, Mr. Akamatsu and his coach, Associate Professor HAYASHI Ryohei from the Health and Physical Education Course at the Faculty of Education, Gifu University, visited the Office of the President. During their meeting, they expressed their unwavering commitment to securing victory in the upcoming competition in Paris to President YOSHIDA Kazuhiro.
Mr. Akamatsu said to the President, "Associate Professor Hayashi and I have dedicated ourselves tirelessly to secure a spot in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. And I know that without strong support of everyone around us, we would not have had come this far. I am thrilled to compete in the Paris games this summer. My initial goal is to advance past the preliminaries and reach the final stage. On the day of competition, I will give my utmost to deliver my best performance."
Following Mr. Akamatsu, Associate Professor Hayashi remarked, "It has been eight years since I first met Mr. Akamatsu. Finally, we can go to Paris together. To attain our long-term goal of winning the Olympic Games, I am committed to supporting Mr. Akamatsu wholeheartedly-from his physical and mental well-being to his high jump technique."
President Yoshida gave them the following words of encouragement; "Congratulations to Mr. Akamatsu on his selection to participate in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. I take immense pride in having an outstanding Olympian from Gifu University. As you prepare for each jump, remember that every step you will make is a testament to the unwavering efforts you and Associate Professor Hayashi have put in together. Embrace the moment when you showcase your best performance on the global stage of competition."
The meeting was followed by an award ceremony to honor a recipient of the newly established Gifu University Fund- President Special Recognition. This prestigious award, introduced last year, recognized individuals who have significantly contributed to enhancing Gifu University's reputation. The President personally presents the award to each recipient. Mr. Akamatsu received the Certificate of Commendation and the Gifu University Fund from President Yoshida in recognition of his selection to participate in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
All members of Gifu University extend their best wishes to Mr. Akamatsu for a successful and triumphant performance in Paris this summer.
