At the "30th Gifu Prefecture New Sake Brand Competition," students from the Graduate School of Natural Science and Technology, Gifu University served as judges to select winners for the "Gifu University President Award." At the competition, Japanese sake brewers in Gifu Prefecture compete their newly brewed sake.

Since 2019, GU students have been taking part in sake brewing training at the Gifu Prefectural Research Institute for Food Sciences located within the compounds of Gifu University. To put their skills into practice, the "Gifu University President Award" was created, and winners are selected by GU students who have completed the training at the Institute.

After the competition, one of the students said, "I was a little nervous about evaluating new sake brands which could become a representative brand of Gifu Prefecture. I checked each sake brand with the concept of "easy-to-drink sake" even for the youths by referring to the knowledge of Sensory Evaluation I learned from the training."

On Wednesday, April 12, 2023, the awarding ceremony was conducted at Grand Vert GIZAN (Gifu City) and President YOSHIDA Kazuhiro handed out the award certificate to each winner. Gifu University continues to work for the growth of the local community and promotion of the well-being of local citizens.
