Short-Term Training Program to Develop a Leader in Carbon Neutral Society

The Center for Collaborative Study with Community, Gifu University hosted the "Short-Term Training Program to Develop a Leader in Carbon Neutral Society" from February 14 through 28, 2023, and it was attended by five GU students. This training program was conducted as part of "AY2022 Training for the Promotion of Regional Renewable Energies and Regional Leader Development in Alliance with Educational Institutions¹" of the Environment Ministry of Japan. It is being supported by Yamagata City (Gifu Prefecture) and R.A hokuriku (energy consulting company, and serves as the secretariat of "Yamagata City Carbon Neutrality Council²."

In the training program, the participants took part in a card game called "2050 Carbon Neutral" to know what a carbon neutral society is all about. They also attended some field works within Yamagata City and participated in prior case study inspections at Nose Town, Osaka Prefecture.

At the "Gifu Future Center (venue for people to talk about the future)," GU students, Yamagata City government officials and the members of the "Yamagata City Carbon Neutrality Council" were divided into two groups, and made proposals on "Carbon Neutrality × Community-Building" for Yamagata City. The following are the proposals made by the group members; "Carbon neutrality must be attained while addressing a declining population in the community," and "Absorption of carbon dioxide by way of forest resources." At the end of the training, five students were given a certificate of completion from Mr. HAYASHI Hiromasa, Mayor of Yamagata City.

On March 10, GU students attended the online "General Meeting" with the students from other universities who carried out the Environment Ministry projects. In the meeting, the students made a presentation on their achievements for carbon neutrality and engaged in an active opinion exchange for some time.

Gifu University continues to collaborate with Yamagata City for human resource development to realize carbon neutral society and contribute to society.
