On June 28, 2022, a small fire broke out at the building of Faculty of Engineering.

The following is the statement issued by President Kazuhiro Yoshida of Gifu University.

"On behalf of Gifu University, I would like to offer my sincere apologies to all concerned for the inconvenience caused by a fire which broke out at the Faculty of Engineering on June 28. Currently, thorough investigations by police and fire station are being conducted to determine the cause of the fire. We pledge to step up our efforts to reinforce our fire prevention measures on campus not to let any similar incident happen in the future."
