Gifu University hosted "Meeting with Senior High School Principals" on July 27, 2020. Started in 2006, this annual meeting serves as an important venue for opinion-exchange and promotion of mutual understanding between Gifu University and senior high schools within Gifu Prefecture.
On July 27, twelve principals represented by Mr. Toshihiko Masuda (Vice Chair of Gifu Prefecture Senior High School Principal Association, (principal of Ogaki Kita Senior High School)) attended the meeting. Fifteen board members and professors from Gifu University participated in the meeting. They were President Hisataka Moriwaki, Professor Hirokazu Fukui (Vice President (Planning, Academic Affairs, Evaluation and Fund), also serves as Director-General of the Organization for Promotion of Higher Education and Student Support (ORPHESS)).
President Moriwaki first spoke about the current status and policies of Tokai National Higher Education and Research System and Gifu University. This was followed by Mr. Masuda's explanation of school vitalization plans. Later, with Professor Mamoru Koketsu, Vice Presidential Advisor (ORPHESS Vice Director-General) as a moderator, the university members and the principals held discussions on such topics as Gifu University's and senior high schools' responses to COVID-19 to secure the safety of students, preparations for new faculties and their educational missions, entrance examination information and future challenges, etc.
During the discussions, high expectations were expressed toward Gifu University by the association members, and active opinion exchange continued for some time. When Mr. Masuda mentioned Gifu Prefecture's "Furusato Hometown Education Projects" being implemented at senior high schools within Gifu, the university members confirmed that the university is actively engaging in a number of events and activities conducted at senior high schools. They reconfirmed the university's crucial roles as a community-driven academic institute and a core base for education and research.
