"Truth of Summer Vegetables Now Unveils"

People enjoy a wide variety of summer vegetables in Japan. Cucumbers, tomatoes, eggplants, to name a few. We often hear that summer vegetables could cool down our bodies, but is this true? NHK staff conducted research on cooling-down effects of summer vegetables which may safeguard us from being hit by heat stroke in hot summer days. How much can these vegetables cool down our bodies, and why do they help us lower our temperatures when consumed? Professor Yabe provides us some insights into the mysteries of summer vegetables in the program. Other new discoveries about summer vegetables are: cucumbers' power to break down fat, lapse of memories by overeating of myoga (a Japanese ginger), etc. The program also introduces how to cook and eat summer vegetables. An Okinawan dish restaurant chef shows a recipe to use a whole bitter gourd not to lose vitamin C it contains. A special guest refers to sticky okras activating food fiber in our bodies. Lastly, delicious spice made from Japanese gingers and farm-fresh gingers appears. It will definitely go well with rice!
