"FLARE Project" Kickoff

Professor Shuhei Takahashi, the Faculty of Engineering is leading the "FLARE Project*" with his members by using "Solid Combustion Experiment Module or SCEM."

By using SCEM, Professor Takahashi and his team are studying how combustibles (such as plastics) will react in weightless environment when they catch on fire. Results of their studies are expected to contribute to setting a standard for fire prevention during manned space mission in the future.

The following are the details of launching of Kounotori 9 (also known as HTV-9), a robotic cargo spacecraft to resupply the International Space Station (ISS).
