Composite Highway Convention 2019

The Composite Highway Consortium with Gifu University as a major player, hosted the Composite Highway Convention 2019 at Juroku Plaza (Gifu City) on November 26, 2019.

The consortium consists of eight public research organizations and private enterprises whose core members are: Nagoya University, Kanazawa Institute of Technology, Gu Composites Center (Gifu University). Its primal goal is to build world's biggest hub for Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastics (CFRP) that encompasses R&D, production, processing and assembly of CFRP.

The Composite Highway Convention 2019 was held to gather all the member organizations together and share information on activities, publicize product development results, etc. by member organizations. A total of 207 people (researchers from the private sector, academic staff and students) took part in the convention.

After the opening remarks by the organizers, the convention started with a keynote speech titled; "The leading edge of carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastic development" given by Mr. Willem Ter Steeg, General Manager Development, Teijin Carbon Europe GmbH.

As the first attempt for 2019, in addition to the reporting of activities by the Composite Highway, the second public screening for "Composite Highway Award" was held. Four companies which passed first screening made their presentations, of them, two were presented the highest award for their excellent technologies and products for CFRP.

Participants expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to listen to the keynote speech and the cosmopolitan environment that the convention offered to them. All participants seemed to be enjoying every moment during the convention.

Gifu University stays committed to promote the activities of the consortium and keeps advancing carbon fiber composite materials research in years to come.
