Three current and former presidents of Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG) and the National University of Malaysia (UKM) paid a courtesy call on President Hisataka Moriwaki at the Office of President on October 7, 2019.

They were:

- Professor Dr. T.G. Sitharam (Director of IITG)

- YBhg. Prof. Ir. Dr. Mohd Hamdi Abd Shukor (Vice-Chancellor of UKM), and

- Prof. Gautam Biswas FNA (former director of IITG, presently JC Bose National Fellow, Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, India)

Prior to the opening of "Gifu Joint Degree Symposium 2019" on October 7 and 8, the three delegates and Gifu University attendees confirmed the progress and future outlooks of the Joint Degree (JD; Master's and PhD) programs which were launched in April 2019 between GU and IITG, and GU and UKM respectively.

After their meeting with President Moriwaki, the three were invited to tour around the campus facilities under the guidance of four academic staff in charge of the JD programs. They also observed the university photo exhibition at the University Library. They all looked very impressed with beautiful sceneries on campus which are showing different features depending on the seasons.
