Gifu University invited Professor Prabirkumar Saha and Professor Mihir Kumar Purkait to Gifu University from the Department of Chemical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati (IITG, India) from June 13 to 28, 2019. Gifu University and IITG launched the International Joint Degree Programs in April 2019.

The two were invited by the International Collaborative Education Promotion Division, the Gifu University Organization for Promotion of Glocalization (GU-GLOCAL), and its objectives are to facilitate education and research programs of students and academic staff, as well as to expedite implementation of the International Joint Department of Food Science and Technology between Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati and Gifu University (Master's Program), the Graduate School of Natural Science and Technology.

During their stay at Gifu University, the two gave lectures on membrane engineering, and research methodology and scientific writing.

At the Practical Seminar on Research Methodology and Scientific Writing on June 27, Professor Purkait spoke about the important points of attention for research, how to write scientific papers based on data acquired, and how to write theses from the perspectives of readers and reviewers. Besides these lectures, they taught at the courses of design thinking and numerical method of the International Joint Department of Food Science and Technology. They also paid a courtesy call on Dr. Fumiaki Suzuki, Executive Director for International Affairs and Public Relations.

Four international joint degree programs were launched in April 2019 with IITG and the National University of Malaysia (UKM, Malaysia) to advance internationalization and further enhance educational and research level of Gifu University. It is expected that active exchange of teaching staff and students among Gifu University, IITG and UKM will continue over a long period of time with the latest visit of the two IITG professors' visit to Gifu University as a significant step foward.
