Gifu University held the third press conference by President Hisataka Moriwaki AY 2019 on May 31, 2019.

At the beginning, President Moriwaki spoke about "Gifu University Academic Archives," one of the main features of "Gifu University 70th Anniversary Event." His speech was followed by the presentations from Associate Professor Chika Suyama (Faculty of Education), Associate Professor Yoshifumi Demura (Faculty of Engineering) and Professor Nobumitsu Kawakubo (Faculty of Applied Biological Sciences). They introduced the concept, history and details of the Academic Archives to the audience.

The Academic Archives consists of "Archive Core" at the University Library, and three archive satellites at the faculties. The Archive Core has two grand exhibitions; one is "FUTURUM ("future" in Latin) where the history of Gifu University and faculties, activities of researchers and teaching staff are introduced with panels and life-size materials. The other is "PRAETER ("past" in Latin). On display are a variety of resources and precious assets that the university stores and preserves as a historical testimony of our research education. Approximately 45,000 items are kept at the Core. Of them, around 1,000 items are now open to the public. They are: plant samples, avian and mammal stuffed specimen, anatomical charts, etc.

After the press conference, the Academic Archives opening ceremony started at the library. It was attended by:

- Mr. Wakamiya, President of the Gifu Museum Association

- Mr. Hirai, Director of the Gifu Prefectural Museum

- Mr. Seiki Ofuji, Vice President and Executive Director for General Affairs and Finance

- Mr. Yoshifumi Ohno, Secretary General of the 70th Anniversary Project, and teaching and administrative staff of Gifu University.

At the ceremony Mr. Hirai gave an opening speech, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony followed. Participants were then invited to tour around the facilities. They observed both "PRAETER" and "FUTURUM" exhibitions, and listened to the explanations from the staff about the works of art on display.

On the day of this opening ceremony, "Digital Campus Museum (called "Deji☆Can" for short) " also opened online.

Many objects of art are found here and there on campus filled in nature. Visitors can study the details of trees within campus with a booklet because metal name plates are attached to many of them. The Digital Campus Museum makes it possible for people to enjoy walking around the campus while gathering information of works of art and trees with their smartphones.

Why not hunt 'our university's treasure' which presents us with totally different aspects by season.
