Gifu University Student Team wins the Gold Prize at "The 11th Die & Mold Student Grand Prix"

The Japan Die & Mold Industry Association held the "Intermold 2019 Die & Mold Asia 2019 Japan Metal Stamping Technology Exhibition 2019" in Tokyo from April 17 to 20, 2019. Gifu University student teams took part in the exhibition and one of the Gifu University student teams won the Gold Prize at the "11th Die & Mold Student Grand Prix" in the press mold category, and the other team won the Silver Prize in the plastic mold category.

In this competition, participating students display dies, molds and molded samples of their own making and explain the details from designing, processing to formation of dies and molds to the examiners. Company officials are invited to inspect each exhibition booth and hold informal talks with students. The competition is now becoming an important venue for students and company officials to discuss various issues arising from the actual manufacturing sites.

Gifu University team won the gold prize in the plastic mold category in 2014, and the teams have kept on wining gold prizes in the press mold category since 2015. This means that Gifu University teams won the gold prizes in six consecutive years if the two categories are combined.

The teams and their instructors reported their achievements to President Hisataka Moriwaki on May 30. In the meeting with the president, one of the team members said, "We as engineers, have learned an ideal process and the points to heed in manufacturing. We also realized the importance of hands-on experiences away from classroom lectures." President Moriwaki praised their great success and said, "I really look forward to hearing a news of awarding every year and I wish for the university's continued victories for 2020 and beyond."
