Completion Ceremony for Hidagyu Breeding and Training Center

A completion ceremony for the Hidagyu Breeding and Training Center was held on March 28, 2019. The center is operated by Japan Agricultural Cooperatives (Zen-Noh Gifu), and is located within Minokamo Farm (Minokamo City, Gifu Prefecture) of Gifu Field Science Center, the Faculty of Applied Biological Sciences.

The center was jointly established by Gifu University, Gifu Prefecture and Zen-Noh Gifu to increase the number of Hida beef cattle and breeders. Breeding experiments and research within university campus farm is the first in Japan.

The ceremony was attended about sixty people including Governor Hajime Furuta of Gifu Prefecture, President Hisataka Moriwaki. teaching and administrative staff, students, prefectural staff and representatives from Zen-Noh Gifu.

"We are very pleased to see an establishment of core base for human resource development and Hida cattle breeding, Gifu's famous brand beef, through partnership among industry, government and academia." said Governor Furuta. President Moriwaki expressed his strong expectations for the new role of Minokamo Farm specializing in lifelong learning and regional contribution, which will make a stark difference from Yanagido Farm which is devoting to student education. He said that each farm will take a full advantage of its own merits and strengths in the fields of studies and research.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony, student presentations and a center tour followed the ceremony. In the student presentations, Mr. Hiroki Mituishi, a first-year master's degree student at the Graduate School of Natural Science and Technology gave his speech titled, "Nutrients and Successful Beef Cattle Breeding." He introduced his research now being undertaken at the Minokamo Farm.

Gifu University continues to work for the growth and success of local businesses and industries.
