AY 2018 Rearing Program for Basin Water Environmental Leaders (BWEL) Certificate Award Ceremony was held at Nagaragawa Convention Center (Gifu City) on March 25, 2019 which was attended by President Hisataka Moriwaki, university members of board, program committee members, Dean of Graduate School of Natural Science and Technology, Dean of the Graduate School of Engineering, Dean of the United Graduate School of Agricultural Science and program promotion office members.

Six doctoral degree students (four from China, two from Indonesia), fourteen master's degree students (nine Japanese, three from China and two from Indonesia) received their certificates of completion.

President Moriwaki handed out certificates to the graduating students one by one and gave his congratulatory message in English.

On behalf of the students, Mr. Kenichi Shinohara (Japanese master's degree student at the Graduate School of Natural Science and Technology) and Mr. Ali Rahmat (doctor's degree student from Indonesia at the United Graduate School of Agricultural Science) delivered their speeches of appreciation in English and expressed their hopes for the future.

Gifu University Rearing Program for Basin Water Environmental Leaders aims to produce environmental leaders who can properly assess and evaluate issues related to the water environment from multiple perspectives. Such environmental leaders are expected to address problems of water quality, water resource and ecosystems that Asia and African nations are facing today. They will plan and implement strategic solutions to these issues and prevent potential risks to the environment.

Since the start of the program in 2009, a total of 194 students completed the program and they have been engaging in programs/projects as prominent environmental leaders across Asia today.
