Gifu University Fair 2017

Gifu University held Gifu University Fair 2017 on December 16, 2017. Approximately 300 people attended the fair.
The fair has been held every year since 2009 as an event to communicate the university education, research projects/programs and social contributions to the general public.
The fair was also a part of "Senior High School & University Partnership Program" of COC*1, development type COC+*2 project of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) started in 2015. Under the theme of "Gifu University: Learning, Exploring, and Contributing, Active Dissemination of Ideas," the university introduced wide-ranging activities of faculties and centers, university education, extracurricular programs and regional collaboration, to senior high school students and their guardians, and local residents.

Writer Fu Narumi was invited as a guest speaker for a special lecture, and he talked about attractions of Japanese mathematics in Edo Period (1603-1868). Other major events included a simulated lecture by President Hisataka Moriwaki, student work exhibition and performances, a panel exhibition for faculty/center activities. In addition, a closing ceremony was held for the Space Engineer Seminar of COC+, and a reporting session of Gifu COC+ Project Promotion Consortium opened where Gifu University students and senior high school students within Gifu Prefecture made their presentations.

The fair offered high school students and residents of local communities an opportunity to get an insight into the university's goals and current activities. Thank you very much for your coming to "Gifu University Fair 2017."

*1 COC (Center of Community) projects: projects of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). Their objectives include reinforcing university functions to be a core of local communities where people, information and technology are brought together for problem-solving. To achieve these objectives, universities are expected to promote regional-based education, research and social contribution.

*2 COC+ (Center of Community Program for Local Revitalization) projects: projects of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). Their objectives include assembling people together to regions for revitalization by: - offering attractive job opportunities to students in collaboration with universities, local governments and businesses and, - supporting university's curriculum reform efforts necessary to cultivate personnel sought by regions.
