Aigi Career Development Consortium for International Students Foundation Meeting opens

Aigi (short for Aichi and Gifu prefectures) Career Development Consortium for International Students Foundation Meeting was convened at the Symposion Hall of Nagoya University on September 11, 2017.

This consortium was primarily organized and arranged by Nagoya University. Its major objectives are: help international students build extensive connections with domestic industries and assist them in landing jobs in Japan by way of a strong partnership among universities, local municipalities, economic organizations and business supporting bodies within two prefectures. The activities of the consortium are also part of the Career Development Program for International Students commissioned by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) that Gifu University is also participating in.

In the first session of the meeting, Seiichi Matsuo, President of Nagoya University and Hisataka Moriwaki, President of Gifu University were elected to be Chair and Vice Chair of the consortium respectively. Later, the participants discussed and then approved proposed business plans and their budget.

In the second session, Mr. Yasukazu Kawai, Manager, General Administration Division of Nagoya University gave an opening speech, which was followed by the two speeches by Mr. Makoto Hirata of Aichi Prefectural Government, and President Moriwaki. After these speeches, a talk session started with the participation of international students of Gifu University, Nagoya Institute of Technology and Meijo University. From Gifu University, Miss Zeng Lei, a second-grade student of the Policy Studies, the Graduate School of Regional Studies attended the session. She spoke about reasons why she decided to study in Japan and her wishes to find a job in Japan. She also expressed her impressions about her own personal experiences of job-seeking all in fluent Japanese.

The foundation meeting was joined by a lot of people who do not belong to the consortium participatory organizations. In this sense, it was proved that the consortium is already playing an important role in supporting international students' employment in Japan. It was also highly evaluated as beneficial in facilitating internationalization and business revitalization in regions.
