On October 4, 2016, Mr. Nguyen Tien Duc and Mr. Trinh Thach Lam of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Nghe An Province, Viet Nam visited Gifu University to pay a courtesy call on President Hisataka Moriwaki and conduct some on-site inspections for agricultural technology exchanges. The two delegates were accompanied by the Gifu Prefectural government officials to Gifu University.

In November 2015, Gifu Prefecture and Nghe An Province signed a "Memorandum of Understanding on Friendship and Cooperation between the Gifu Prefectural Government, Japan and The People's Committee of Nghe An, the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam" aiming to build friendly relationship and mutual prosperity through respecting cultures and traditions of each nation, and deepening understanding with one another. The two were invited to Gifu Prefecture to facilitate technological exchanges particularly in the field of agriculture. Their visit to Gifu University was part of their on-site inspection programs.

Their meeting with President Moriwaki was joined by Dr. Fumiaki Suzuki, Executive Director for International Affairs and Public Relations, Dr. Hirokazu Fukui, Dean of the Faculty of Applied Biological Sciences, and Ms. Junko Sugaya, Director of the International Planning Division. In the meeting, they talked about future acceptance of agricultural trainees from Nghe An Province to the Faculty of Applied Biological Sciences, and agreed to mutual cooperation towards a common goal of "cultivating highly capable human resources in agriculture."

After their courtesy call on the President, the delegates got briefed on educational programs in agriculture at the Faculty of Applied Biological Sciences. Later, they inspected a cultivation site of "Fairly Wing," a new variety of ornamental plant at the Gifu Field Science Center located within the campus. There, the delegates and the staff exchanged opinions about possible production of "Fairly Wing" in Viet Nam in the future. Lastly, the delegates met the two students from Viet Nam who are studying at Gifu University. They are: Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Thanh Tam (supervised by Professor Koji Tsuchida) and Mr. Nguyen Phu Khanh (supervised Associate Professor Takeo Onishi). The two students introduced their research activities to the delegates, and the delegates and the students engaged in some discussions about the students' future careers after obtaining degrees at Gifu University.
