On August 5, 2016, the "Gifu Prefecture and National University Corporation Gifu University Partnership Promotion Meeting" in 2016 was held at Gifu University.

The meeting was set up based on the "Partnership Agreement between Gifu Prefecture and National University Corporation Gifu University" concluded on March 28, 2008 as a venue to discuss issues among the Governor of Gifu Prefecture and the President of Gifu University and other officials from cross-sectional and comprehensive points of view. Since the conclusion of this agreement in 2008, discussions have been made among the members every year.

On August 5, in the presence of Governor Hajime Furuta of Gifu Prefecture and President Histakata Moriwaki of Gifu University, the participants discussed how to reinforce regional disaster mitigation measures and promotion of international exchange in Gifu Prefecture and Gifu University. With regard to disaster prevention, they confirmed the importance of further development of human resources who will be responsible for regional disaster mitigation, and they also agreed that the Gifu Disaster Mitigation Center, which was jointly established between Gifu Prefecture and Gifu University in 2015, would play a crucial role in preventing natural disasters in the future.

Gifu University continues to address issues related to local communities by strengthening ties with municipalities including Gifu Prefecture.
