The 6th Cryogen & High Pressure Gas Handling Seminar is held

On April 27, 2016, the 6th Cryogen & High Pressure Gas Handling Seminar was held at the University auditorium for the purpose of raising people's awareness about danger and risks of cryogen and high pressure gas. About 310 people attended the seminar including teaching and administrative staff and students.

Associate Professor Yasunori Oumi, Division of Instrumental Analysis, the Life Science Research Center, and Professor Takahisa Nishizu, the Faculty of Applied Biological Sciences gave lectures on proper handling of cryogen and high pressure gas and precautions in their use through the cooperation from a major gas company, Tomoe Shokai Co., Ltd.

The major objective of the seminar is to supply people with basic knowledge about cryogen and high pressure gas. The participants of this 6th seminar learned a lot about the state of oxygen deficiency watching the images of past accidents projected on the screen.

Some points of attention were also introduced in handling a liquefied nitrogen tank placed at the Faculty of Engineering, and how people at the Faculty of Applied Biological Sciences are moving liquefied nitrogen safely to the seminar participants.

Gifu University is seeking to create a safer environment in conducting science experiments by holding these seminars and applying the knowledge to experiments and practical training carried out at the University in the future.
