Prof. Gautam Biswas, FNA, Director of Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG) , made a courtesy call on President Hisataka Moriwaki

 On December 15, 2015. Prof. Gautam Biswas, FNA, Director of Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG), India made a courtesy call on President Hisataka Moriwaki. The meeting was joined by Dr. Fumiaki Suzuki, Executive Director for International Affairs and Public Relations, Dr. Shuichi Nonomura, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Mutsuhiro Shima of the same faculty, Dr. Hirokazu Fukui, Dean of the Faculty of Applied Biological Sciences, Dr. Hiroyuki Koyama and Dr. Takahisa Nishizu of the Faculty of Applied Biological Sciences.

Gifu University and IITG concluded an Agreement on Faculty and Student Exchanges in June 2015 and the two universities have maintained active exchanges in both accepting and sending teaching staffs and students ever since.

In the meeting with the President, President Moriwaki and Dr. Biswas talked about a joint degree program scheduled to be introduced from 2019 and both agreed with continued efforts for a realization of the program through close cooperation.

Gifu University opened the first Winter School program in December 2015, and eight students from IITG were accepted at Gifu University. The Winter School program was created to encourage IITG students to study for a joint degree program in the future and all these eight students underwent research work at laboratories, attended Japanese language classes, and took part in various Japanese culture experience programs during the Winter School.

In the meeting with the President, the participants actively exchanged opinions about preliminary arrangements for IITG students to help them concentrate on their research activities in Japan such as Japanese language training sessions at IITG before their leaving to Japan.
