Representatives of Universities Participating in 4th UGSAS-GU Roundtable & Symposium 2015 Pay Courtesy Call on President Moriwaki

On August 26, representatives of the universities participating in the 4th UGSAS-GU Roundtable & Symposium 2015, an event co-sponsored by Gifu University United Graduate School of Agricultural Science (UGSAS), Gifu University Graduate School of Applied Biological Sciences, and Shizuoka University Graduate School of Integrated Science and Technology, Department of Agriculture, paid a courtesy call on President Hisataka Moriwaki.

Held from August 25 through 27, the Roundtable & Symposium was attended by representatives of 17 universities--14 members of the International Consortium of Universities in South and Southeast Asian Region for the Doctoral Education on the Agricultural Science and Biotechnology (from seven countries in South and Southeast Asia) and three observer institutions. Representatives of these universities were on hand for the courtesy call. Also in attendance from Gifu University were Dr. Fumiaki Suzuki, Executive Director for International Affairs and Public Relations, Dr. Masateru Senge, Dean of UGSAS, and Dr. Hirokazu Fukui, Dean of the Faculty of Applied Biological Sciences. Shizuoka University was represented by Dr. Akira Nukaya, Dean of the Graduate School of Agriculture.

In the meeting with the President, the members engaged in a lively discussion on future development of the consortium. Several issues for consideration were raised, including expansion of the consortium while assuring its quality, establishment of multilateral and multi-university accreditation systems, promotion of mutually beneficial research activities, and enhancement of student and faculty exchange opportunities.
