Dr. Hisataka Moriwaki, President of Gifu University, Dr. Fumiaki Suzuki, Executive Director, Dr. Hiroyuki Koyama, Advisor to the President and Dr. Makoto Kiso, Specially-Appointed Professor of Gifu University visit Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati

Dr. Hisataka Moriwaki, President of Gifu University, Dr. Fumiaki Suzuki, Executive Director for International Affairs and Public Relations, Dr. Hiroyuki Koyama, Advisor to the President and Dr. Makoto Kiso, Specially-Appointed Professor of the Faculty of Applied Biological Sciences of Gifu University visited Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT-G), one of the sister universities of the United Graduate School of Agricultural Science (UGSAS) and the Faculty of Engineering of Gifu University, on Sunday 21st and Monday 22nd September, 2014. The followings are the details of their visit:

1) Meeting with Director of IIT-G for Joint Program and Conclusion of MoU

Firstly, the opinion exchange meeting was held between IIT-G senior officials and the Gifu University delegation to discuss international and inter-institutional joint cooperative educational programs. The participants of the meeting on the side of IIT-G are: Prof. Gautam Biswas, Director of IIT-G, Prof. A. K. Ghosal, Dean (Academic), Prof. P. Mohanta, Dean (Faculty Affairs), and the deans and the faculty staff in charge of joint cooperative education programs. Both the Gifu University delegation and the IIT-G officials proposed their own joint programs, and the participants vigorously exchanged opinions for the program details. After intense discussions, both parties agreed with the program contents and Director of IIT-G and President of Gifu University signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for implementation of joint programs. The meeting turned to become quite a successful and productive one.

2) Interaction with IIT-G Students, Delegation's Visit to Students Dormitory

Thanks to the two student guides of IIT-G, the Gifu University delegation was given an opportunity to visit the students dormitory located within campus and observed student rooms, cafeterias and shops, etc. The delegation also had a chance to listen to what the students have to say about studying abroad, future careers and their life in campus.

3) Discussion with Deputy Director, Dean (Academic) and Dean (R&D) of IIT-G

Prof. S. K. Nandi, Deputy Director of IIT-G, and Prof. A. K. Ghosal, Dean (Academic) and Prof. D. Chakraborty, Dean (R&D) and the Gifu University delegation discussed the international and inter-institutional joint cooperative educational programs. Their intensive and extensive discussions lasted for hours to work out the details of concrete collaboration.

4) Dr. Makoto Kiso's Lecture at Department of Chemistry

Professor Emeritus Makoto Kiso, Specially-Appointed Professor of the Faculty of Applied Biological Sciences of Gifu University delivered a lecture concerning his current research subject to the students and the faculty staff of the Department of Chemistry at IIT-G. The lecture room was filled with ardent listeners and many of them had to observe the lecture standing up. The whole gallery was attentively listening to Professor's Kiso's latest research report throughout the session.

5) Gifu University Delegation's Visit to Department of Mechanical Engineering, Department of Chemistry and Department of Biotechnology of IIT-G for Discussions with Deans and the Faculty

The Gifu University delegation visited the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Department of Chemistry and Department of Biotechnology of IIT-G for discussions about joint programs with the faculty members. The delegation members engaged in many constructive discussions with the faculty staff in each department. The delegation was also given a chance to tour around the laboratories of each department.
