His Excellency Dr. István Szerdahelyi, Hungarian Ambassador to Japan visits Gifu University

His Excellency Dr. István Szerdahelyi, Hungarian Ambassador to Japan made a courtesy visit to Gifu University on April 24th, 2014, attended by Dr. Jitsuhiro Yamada, President of Gifu Prefecture-Hungary Friendship Association, and Mr. Haruhiko Kouketsu, Director of the same Association.

His Excellency conferred with Hisataka Moriwaki, President of Gifu University and other executive members of Gifu University including Dr. Fumiaki Suzuki, Executive Director for International Affairs and Public Relations, Dr. Toyohide Takeuchi, Director of International Student Center, and Dr. Mutsuhiro Shima of the Faculty of Engineering, who currently serves as a liaison for The University of Pannonia (Hungary), one of Gifu University's sister universities. The meeting between His Excellency and President Moriwaki was realized through coordination of the two friendship associations.

In the meeting, His Excellency conveyed the message of Dr. Ferenc Friedler, Rector of The University of Pannonia to President Moriwaki, which says that Rector sincerely hopes to expand the current exchange framework with Gifu University.

While introducing plans and programs proposed by The University of Pannonia and other materials, His Excellency mentioned The University of Pannonia's willingness to facilitate exchange with Gifu University and its readiness to discuss any suggestions for future cooperation from Gifu University. His Excellency also referred to some of the Hungarian government's economic aids for Gifu University students and researchers who intend to study at The University of Pannonia in the future.

After expressing his appreciation to His Excellency, President Moriwaki spoke about Gifu University's commitment to globalization and efforts to increase the number of Gifu University students and researchers studying abroad including the Republic of Hungary.

During the meeting, Dr. Fumiaki Suzuki informed His Excellency of an inquiry sent to every Gifu University's sister university to explore the possibilities of substantive collaboration within the framework of Memorandum of Understanding and Agreement on Exchange.

Both His Excellency and President Moriwaki agreed with bolstering mutual exchange of students and researchers between The University of Pannonia and Gifu University. They also actively exchanged their opinions regarding the nature of future cooperation and the possible steps to take for activation of friendship between the two universities.

His Excellency kindly accepted a request from President Moriwaki to send his message to Rector of The University of Pannonia for enhancement of partnership through discussions by the officials in charge in both universities.

The meeting between His Excellency and President Moriwaki and other executive members of Gifu University was a great success, giving a strong momentum to cementing a relationship between The University of Pannonia and Gifu University in the years to come.
