Gifu Prefectural Chuo Livestock Hygiene Service Center Opening Ceremony is held

The Gifu Prefectural Central Livestock Hygiene Service Center was established within the premises of Gifu University and the opening ceremony was held on June 16, 2017. Gifu Prefecture and Gifu University signed an "Agreement on Cooperation for Livestock Hygiene Education and Infectious Disease Prevention" on March 20, 2014. Based on this agreement, the two institutions had been preparing for a relocation of the Chuo Livestock Hygiene Service Center to Gifu University as a base for promotion of the partnership. This is the first ever establishment of a livestock hygiene service center within the premises of a national university in Japan. The Faculty of Applied Biological Sciences affiliated Education and Research Center for Food Animal Health (GeFAH) is also in operation.

In the opening ceremony, Governor of Gifu Prefecture, Hajime Furuta and President Hisatataka Moriwaki of Gifu University gave opening speeches respectively. On behalf of Gifu University students, Mr. Kenji Nishiwaki, a six-year student of the Joint Department of Veterinary Medicine of the Faculty of Applied Biological Sciences expressed his hope about the center as follows: "We are having high expectations of the opening of the new center within the university as it will become a place for exchange with the government officials and help us deepen our understanding about livestock hygiene."
Afterward, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held with all the people concerned in attendance.

In the following special lecture session, people listened to brief explanations about a partnership between Gifu Prefecture and Gifu University and a summary of bird influenza outbreak within Gifu Prefecture. Next, Mr. Yosuke Murakami, Specially-Appointed Professor of the Faculty of Applied Biological Sciences gave a presentation, "Crisis in Global Society - Communicable Diseases and the Future of Livestock."

A total of 120 people attended the ceremony including Gifu Prefecture Assembly members, teaching and administrative staff, students of Gifu University and people from livestock businesses and organizations. The ceremony ended with a huge success signaling people's strong hope for great achievements by the center in the years ahead.
