The 4th Open Lecture by the United Graduate School of Veterinary Sciences, Gifu University, "Current State and Measures for Drug-Resistant Strain of Bacteria Posing a Serious Threat to Medical Treatment and Veterinary Medicine" is held

On February 16, 2017, the United Graduate School of Veterinary Sciences, Gifu University held the 4th Open Lecture under the title of "Current State and Measures for Drug-Resistant Strain of Bacteria Posing a Serious Threat to Medical Treatment and Veterinary Medicine" at Gifu University Satellite Campus near JR Gifu Station. About 40 people from Gifu Prefecture Medical Association, Gifu Veterinary Medical Association and Gifu Prefectural Government attended the lecture.

The United Graduate School of Veterinary Sciences holds an open lecture once a year in order to supply Gifu citizens, medical staff and veterinarians in the region with information about the latest topics in veterinary sciences for active opinion exchange between specialists and citizens.

On February 16, three guest speakers made speeches. The names and the titles of the speeches are as follows:

- Dr. Haruo Watanabe, former Director-General of National Institute of Infectious Diseases; "The Current State and Measures for Drug-Resistant Strain of Bacteria"
- Mr. Yoshimasa Yamamoto, Director of Osaka Prefectural Institute of Public Health; "Japan's Challenge for Drug-Resistant Strain of Bacteria after Survey in Asia"
- Professor Tetsuo Asai, the United Graduate School of Veterinary Sciences, Gifu University; "Bring Drug-Resistant Strain of Bacteria Under Control in Veterinary Medicine"

After the speeches, a general discussion took place. Many attendees asked about problems, difficulties and measures about use of antibacterial agent for medical treatment and veterinary medicine. Lively conversations among citizens, medical staff and veterinarians continued for some time.
