The 3rd Medicine-Pharmacy-Veterinary Partnership Meeting is held (sponsored by Gifu Foundation for Research Promotion of Healthy Aging and Drug Discovery)

On January 27, 2017, the 3rd Medicine-Pharmacy-Veterinary Partnership Meeting was held at Gifu Pharmaceutical University.

This meeting was held as part of projects of the Gifu Foundation for Research Promotion of Healthy Aging and Drug Discovery. The Gifu Foundation for Research Promotion of Healthy Aging and Drug Discovery was jointly created by Gifu University and Gifu Pharmaceutical University in March 2006 in an effort to sophisticate and differentiate research work through active exchanges and strong partnership among researchers of the two universities. The 3rd Medicine-Pharmacy-Veterinary Partnership Meeting was convened to celebrate the opening of the Center for Highly Advanced Integration of Nano and Life Sciences (G-CHAIN) at Gifu University on October 1, 2016 as well. The center is the body that enables researchers and scholars in medicine, pharmacy, veterinary and biotechnology to join various research collaborations.

At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Hideto Fukushi, Executive Director for Academic Research and Information, Vice President of Gifu University gave an opening speech. Then, Professor Hideharu Ishida of the Faculty of Applied Biological Sciences and Director of the Center made his presentation about the advantage and the features of G-CHAIN under the title, "Overview of the Center for Highly Advanced Integration of Nano and Life Sciences (G-CHAIN)."

Next, the two professors spoke about their research activities on sugar chain, one of the main study themes of G-CHAIN. First, Associate Professor Hiromune Ando gave a speech titled, "Challenge for sugar chain function analysis centering around creation of refined molecules." Associate Professor Kenichi Suzuki of the Institute for Integrated Cell-Material Science, Kyoto University (iCeMS) followed, and spoke under the title, "Cell membrane and signaling mechanism unveiled through highly-accurate molecule observation."

Associate Professor Hiroaki Kamishina of the Faculty of Applied Biological Sciences also made his presentation titled, "Sharing medicine through alliance among medicine, pharmacy and veterinary" and talked about the merits of in-campus collaboration.

Lastly, Professor Hidefumi Fukumitsu of Gifu Pharmaceutical University closed the meeting by his speech. He said, "Gifu University and Gifu Pharmaceutical University share the same campus site and the two institutions will continue to work together by taking advantage of this ideal location." Many questions were raised from the audience and the 3rd Medicine-Pharmacy-Veterinary Partnership Meeting offered people a great opportunity to further promote research collaboration of the two universities in the years to come.
