Summer School Program 2016 comes to an end

The Summer School Program 2016 which started on June 29, came to an end with a Closing Ceremony and a Farewell Party on July 27.

The Summer School Program is a campus-wide program conducted under the supervision of the Gifu University Head Office for Glocalization (GHOGL), and the International Student Center is responsible for organizing and carrying out individual educational programs of the School. The participants took part in various events and activities besides Japanese and Japanese culture classes. They include pottery-making experience in Toki City, four-day homestay program in Gujo City and watching sumo bouts live in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture. The participants of this year's Summer School Program are: two from Kasetsart University (Thailand), three from Northern Kentucky University (U.S.A.) and three from Mokpo National University (South Korea).

On July 27 at the Closing Ceremony and Farewell Party, in addition to the Summer School students, members of Gujo Hachiman International Friendship Association (GIFA), who arranged the Gujo homestay program for the students and the host families were invited to the ceremonies. From Gifu University, President Hisataka Moriwaki, Dr. Fumiaki Suzuki, Executive Director for International Affairs and Public Relations (Director of GHOGL), Dr. Hideto Fukushi, Executive Director for Academic Research and Information, Professor Masako Hayashi, Vice President for the Promotion of Gender Equality and Diversity, student tutors who assisted the Summer School students, and teaching and administrative staff of the International Student Center joined the ceremony and party. Everyone looked fully enjoying their last conversations in quite a friendly environment.

After Professor Koichi Morita, Director of the International Student Center gave an opening speech and introduced the members of the host families, President Moriwaki and Mr. Yukihiko Sumi, Chair of GIFA made their speeches. At the Program Completion Certificate Awarding, Dr. Suzuki handed the certificates to the Summer School students one by one and they accepted the certificates with a big smile. Later, they delivered speeches about the Summer School in Japanese showing that all of them made substantial progress in their Japanese for just one month after their arrival at Gifu University.

After the closing remarks by Dr. Suzuki, everyone lined up for some group photos. It is our strong hope that those who took part in the Summer School Program 2016 would come back to Gifu University to see us in the near future.
