Certificate Ceremony for Gifu University Rearing Program for Basin Water Environmental Leaders in June 2016 is held

On June 30, 2016, the Certificate Ceremony for Gifu University Rearing Program for Basin Water Environmental Leaders (BWEL) in June 2016 was held for Ms. Wang Siqinbilige (China), a third-year doctoral student of the United Graduate School of Agricultural Science at the President's Office. The Ceremony was joined by President Hisataka Moriwaki, Dr. Hideto Fukushi, Chair of BWEL General Committee, Professor Yoshio Awaya, a supervisor for Ms. Wang and Director of the River Basin Research Center, and Dr. Fusheng Li, Director of the BWEL Promotion Office.

President Moriwaki handed the certificate to Ms. Wang and gave her encouragement by saying, "I sincerely hope for your great success as a prominent environmental leader in China in the near future."

The Gifu University Rearing Program for Basin Water Environmental Leaders is designed to produce environmental leaders who can properly assess and evaluate issues related to the water environment from multiple perspectives. Such environmental leaders are expected to address problems of water quality, water resource and irrigation management and protection of ecosystem that Asia and African nations are facing today. They will plan and implement strategic solutions to these issues and prevent potential risks to the environment.

A total of 136 students including Ms. Wang completed their study in the program since the program's start in 2009 and many of them have already got a lot of attention for their excellent work as environmental leaders in Asian countries.
