The 17th Workshop for Administrative Staff of Faculties of Medicine and Dentistry at National and Private University is held

From May 11 to 13, 2016, the Subcommittee on Educational System and Curriculum of the Standing Committee for the Council of Head of National Medical Schools of Japan, and the Medical Education Committee of the National Associate of Japan Medical Colleges Council hosted the 17th Workshop for Administrative Staff of Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at National and Private University in Yanagido Campus and Satellite Campus of Gifu University.

The workshop is held every year intended for the administrative staff working at the faculties of medicine and dentistry. Its primal goals are: deepening the staff's understanding about the current situations of medical and dentistry education and their administrative work, improving the staff's skills, information sharing, and promotion of smooth work transaction at national and private universities across Japan. The Medical Education Development Center (MEDC)* and the School of Medicine, Gifu University play the supporting roles in the workshop.

In addition to the two lectures titled, "Basics of Medical Education," and "Going Through Accreditation Trials," group discussions and role-playing session were held. In the group discussions, the participants talked about the challenges in administrative work and sharing effective ways for problem-solving. In the role-playing, they took the roles of students and staff in order to discuss unique characters of contemporary students and appropriate responses to them. They also attended a practical training to make easy-to-understand references and exhibition materials being instructed by the educators of the Faculty of Education, Gifu University. In this three-day long workshop, all the participants were encouraged to join the discussions, role-playing and training, and everyone enjoyed playing their parts at the workshop.

On the final day of May 13, the participants, a total of 39 people, were awarded the certificates of completion and the 17th Workshop joined by the staff coming from 37 universities ended with a great success.

*MEDC was accredited by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology as a collaboration center for medical education in Japan in April 2010.
