The United Graduate School of Agricultural Science signs a Memorandum of Understanding with Thuyloi University, Vietnam

The United Graduate School of Agricultural Science (UGSAS) signed Memorandum of Understanding with Thuyloi University, Vietnam on June 22, 2015.
A delegation from Gifu University visited the university to attend the signing ceremony held on June 22.
The Gifu University delegates were:

Professor Kohei Nakano, Senior Tutor, UGSAS
Ms. Satoko Yoshida, Section Chief of UGSAS
Mr. Eiji Chihara, Sanyu Consultants Inc.*


Thuyloi University was founded in 1959 under the direction of the state government as a part of its national strategy. The university covers all academic fields concerning water resource sciences including hydraulic engineering, irrigation engineering, hydrology, dam engineering, disaster prevention science, environment management, hydraulic science and regional development, and spanning all student levels, from undergraduates to doctoral candidates. The university is considered the best in country in the field of water resource sciences, and most of alumni find employment at the state and regional governments as engineers or administrative officials. It has more than 20 overseas partner universities and has concluded agreements for educational cooperation with a number of Japanese universities, including Kyoto University, Kyushu University, Tohoku University, Tokyo Metropolitan University, and Chuo University.

After the signing ceremony, the Gifu University delegation attended a meeting for the purpose of exchanging ideas with 19 officials of Thuyloi University.

In the meeting, the participants first talked about possible educational collaboration between Gifu University and Thuyloi University. Then, Dr. Senge presented an overview of UGSAS and the collaborative education activities of the "International Consortium of Universities in South and Southeast Asia for the Doctoral Education in Agricultural Science and Biotechnology (IC-GU 12)." Later, President Kim spoke about the necessity of educational cooperation with overseas universities in accordance with the state government policy for advancing higher education. Gifu University is scheduled to host the 4th UGSAS-GU Roundtable & Symposium 2015 in Gifu in August, 2015 and the Gifu University delegation formally invited Thuyloi University to attend the symposium. They reaffirmed the commitment of Thuyloi University to join IC-GU12 and also agreed to work together for realization of a dual PhD program in the near future.

* Sanyu Consultants Inc. is a member of the Industry Subcommittee. The Industry Subcommittee is made up of five companies in the Tokai Region specializing in biological and biotechnological research. Its objective is to cultivate highly-skilled professionals.
