"Japanese Society and Culture Program"　is a program designed for exchange students from overseas partner universities, who are currently studying at International Student Center, and focuses on encouraging them to acquire knowledge about Japanese society and culture. "Japanese Language Course" consists of Intensive Japanese Courses and Standard Japanese Courses, and offers the 1 semester Japanese language lessons to government-sponsored foreign students, graduate students, research students and exchange students.
The opening ceremony was attended by 3 international students, who entered Gifu University this April and enrolled on Japanese Society and Culture Program, and 24 students consisted of government-sponsored foreign students, research students and graduate students, who enrolled on Japanese Language Course (Intensive Japanese Courses).
At the beginning of the ceremony, President Hisataka Moriwaki delivered an address of welcome and explained the background of the establishment of International Student Center and its history. Every international student was introduced and then on behalf of the Japanese Society and Culture Program students, Ms. Wu Xian, who is an exchange student from University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, said, "I want to study Japanese hard as well as its culture. I am looking forward to making many friends"in Japanese.
In her speech, Ms. Appiah-Kwarteng Cornelia, who is a government-sponsored foreign student recommended by embassy (Ghanaian research student of Faculty of Applied Biological Sciences) expressed her joy in gaining admission to Gifu University and her ambitions for the study.
Dr. Toyohide Takeuchi, Director of International Student Center concluded the ceremony with the words of encouragement: "Please take good care of your health and study hard."
