Mission Completed with Fruitful Visit to Member Universities of IC-GU12

A delegation of the United Graduate School of Agricultural Science (UGSAS) led by Prof. Tohru Mitsunaga, Vice Dean of UGSAS, paid a five-day visit to Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) and University of Lampung (UNILA) in Indonesia from August 12th to 16th of 2014.
The highlights of the first day of 12th were the ceremony that conferred the title of Invited Professor of UGSAS upon Prof. Latifah of IPB, and the presentation titled "Cosmetics Industry and Product Development" given by Dr. Haruya Kato, Guest Professor of UGSAS. It was impressive that as many as 150 students were there in spite of the middle of summer break and attentively listening to his presentation.
For the following two days of 13th and 14th, the delegates visited the IPB International Convention Center (ICC) and the Biopharmaca Research Center at IPB. They discussed a prospect of the Dual PhD Degree Program (DDP) with Prof. Dahrul, Dean of Graduate School, and Dr. Irmanida, Director of the research center. They also arranged for the upcoming International Workshop at IPB scheduled next December.

On the day of 15th, the delegates made a field trip to the vast pineapple field of Great Giant Pineapple Company (GGPC) and the labs, and Mr. Sukmaratri of GGPC introduced them to the company in the LOB plant. It was a great opportunity to introduce UGSAS to the company and to raise a proposal on the table that they accept the UGSAS students as an intern.
The last day of 16th started a warm welcome to the delegates extended by 20 faculty members of UNILA led by Prof. Abbas, Dean of Faculty of Agriculture. They had an active discussion toward the conclusion of the DDP agreement, and they also visited UNILA's research labs and farms that afternoon.
The UGSAS clearly sees that the visit of this time to the two universities, ICC, and GGPC made the possibility of DDP more realistic. It also helped the UGSAS grasp the research condition in Indonesia.
The UGSAS wraps up this visit with the conclusion that the delegates completed more than its original mission, additionally opening up a new gate to an overseas internship program in Indonesia for the UGSAS students.
