Cross-Cultural Event 7: French Artist Live Music Show

The Faculty of Regional Studies held the 7th Cross-Cultural Event titled, "French Artist Live Music Show" co-sponsored by the Office for Academic Globalization on Wednesday, July 9th, 2014. "Joël et le duo Escale," the musical band from East France, gave an excellent performance, which mesmerized the entire audience.

At the beginning of the show, Mr. Gilles Guerrin, Associate Professor of the Faculty of Regional Studies introduced each member of the band. In all, the band performed 20 chansons and jazz pieces including "A Bicyclette" and popular "Les Champs-Elysées."

At the end of the show, Mr. Ryosuke Fujiyoshi, a fourth-year student of the Faculty of Engineering appeared on the stage with his guitar, and collaborated with the band in singing and playing one of the most popular and soulful songs to the Japanese, "Ue o Muite Arukō," The song is better known as "SUKIYAKI" song in many English-speaking countries. Mr. Joël Jacquelin, a lead vocalist of the band, mastered the Japanese lyrics in just a week and sang the song at the "Charity Concert for Fukushima, 2011" held in France. The show ended with the "SUKIYAKI" chorus of the band and the audience while a big clapping of hands was echoing throughout the auditorium.

Nearly 130 people including the students and the staff of Gifu University, French students visiting Gifu University, residents, parents and children from local communities all enjoyed the remarkable performance of Joël et le duo Escale to their hearts' content.
